Why I Dropped My Landline for a Cell Phone
I used to have a goal of becoming the last person in the world to own a cell phone. I prided myself on the fact that I was the only person in my circle of friends and family that wasn’t tethered their phone. Recently I had a change of heart and in a continual effort to simplify my life I decided to drop my landline and get a cell phone. This action forced me to abandon my ridiculous goal but improvise, adapt and overcome has always been my motto. It was a great move towards simplifying my life and I will tell you why.
- One Bill. A cell phone bill is a confusing list of charges but it is still only one bill.
- One Phone. No need to have multiple phones situated throughout my house anymore. No more replacing broken phones or dead batteries.
- The people calling my cell phone are calling for me. I no longer have to field calls for my wife. No more mother-in-law, brother-in-law, or chatty friends.
- With local number portability you can move your landline to your cell phone.
- Many plans have free in-network calling and unlimited night and weekend minutes.
- Your number won’t be listed in the phone book (this may not be a benefit to all).
- You can check messages anytime and anywhere.
Making the switch to a cell-phone-only household was surprisingly easy. Had I known it would be this simple I would have cut the cord years ago.
