Eat An Apple To Suppress Your Hunger

Posted in Diet & Nutrition on August 2nd, 2006 by Paul

AppleI eat an apple every day at 9 AM. I normally do my workout in the morning and every day like clockwork I start having hunger pains at about 8:30 AM. I choose an apple because it does a great job of controlling my hunger and getting me through to my next meal. I try to eat six meals a day in an effort to control my hunger and manage my calorie intake.

One medium apple has about 80 calories and 5g of dietary fiber. The bulky fiber in the apple will cause you to feel fuller much faster than other snacks. Apples have many health benefits other than just effectively controlling hunger. Pectin is a fiber found in apples that acts as an antioxidant, decreases the chances of colon cancer, and reduces high blood pressure. Apples also contain Phytochemicals and Quercetin which help reduce the risk of many diseases like cancer, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, cataracts, osteoporosis, and urinary tract infections.

Luckily there are many different varieties of apples to keep it interesting. The next time you feel some hunger pangs coming on just reach for an apple.
