Sea Salt Will Make You a Better Cook
Sea salt is a simple addition to my cooking repertoire that really elevates my cooking to the next level. It adds a nice finishing touch my dishes by delivering a coarse and unexpected texture.
Sea salt generally refers to unrefined salt derived directly from evaporated seawater which receives very little processing. Since manufacturers of sea salt typically do not refine sea salt as much as other kinds of salt it still contains traces of other minerals which helps to flavor and color the salt slightly. People who use sea salt consistently applaud the subtleties it can bring to a dish through its unusual texture and taste.
The main difference between the various kitchen salts is in the texture of the granules. Table salt has fine granules that dissolve quickly making for an unobtrusive seasoning. Sea salt and kosher salt possess larger, irregularly-shaped grains that add a pleasant crunch and hint of briny flavor when sprinkled on food at the last minute.
There are many different kinds of salts to choose from and each kind serves a specific purpose in your cooking. Although you won’t gain any health benefits when using sea salt it may just make you better cook.
