Dyson Airblade Cuts through Germs
Dyson of Dyson vacuum fame has released the Airblade, a faster and more hygienic hand dryer. Dyson claims the Airblade is more sanitary, energy efficient, and dries hands faster than existing hand dryers. I’m a bit obsessive compulsive when it comes to hand washing and anything that will make visiting the WC a bit more antiseptic is welcome by me.
The Airblade dries hands by forcing unheated air through a 0.3mm gap at over 400 miles per hour to create a high velocity sheet of air that wipes hands dry in just 10 seconds. I’ve visited enough bathrooms to know that most hand dryers typically take about a minute of vigorous hand rubbing to get your hands dry.
The best part of the Airblade is the improvements to sanitation. While other hand dryers suck in dirty washroom air and blow it onto my clean hands, the Airblade uses a HEPA filter to remove bacteria and mold from the washroom air it sucks in. Also, when drying my hands, the Airblade collects and traps the waste water and passes it through an iodine resin micro filter which removes bacteria. Then the sterile water is atomized and released harmlessly back into the room as an invisible mist. Very nice.
My Dyson vacuum has performed flawlessly for me and I imagine the Airblade was built with the same standards. I wonder how much it would cost me to get one installed in my house.
