Minnesota Tops America's Health RankingsAn annual report released by United Health Foundation puts Minnesota at the top of the list of healthiest states for the fourth straight year. Minnesota has held this honor 11 of the 17 years since the 1990 edition of the report. Vermont come in second while Louisiana has the unfortunate distinction of being 50th this year, down from 49th in 2005. Louisiana has been in the bottom two states since the 1990 Edition.

The report also concludes that the nation’s overall health improved slightly, concluding that Americans are 0.3 percent healthier than they were a year ago.

The findings in the report are drawn from four factors: personal behaviors, the environment and community that people live and work in, the quality of clinical care we receive, and the policies and practices of our health care and prevention systems.

The purpose of the rankings is to stimulate public interest regarding the state of health in the U.S., as well as booster participation from citizens.

America’s Health Rankings is an annual report produced in partnership with the United Health Foundation, the American Public Health Association and Partnership for Prevention. United Health Foundation was established in 1999 by UnitedHealth Group as a nonprofit, private foundation.
