Wii FitNintendo’s fitness game for the Wii is on pace to become the fastest selling Wii game ever. The game, simply named “Fit”, has outdone all previous records on Play.com by selling out its entire allocation in just one day.

Wii Fit is an exercise game that uses a unique device called the Wii Balance Board to perform various fitness-related activities. The Balance Board can measure a user’s weight and their center of gravity, thereby calculating their body mass index.

The game has about 40 different activities and exercises divided into four categories including Aerobic exercise, Muscle Conditioning, Yoga Poses, and Balance Games. Some of the training activities include:

  • Yoga exercises
  • Push ups
  • Step aerobics, including a game in which the player must step on and off the Wii Balance Board in rhythm to the background music
  • Heading on-coming soccer balls and avoiding other objects by leaning forward and back
  • A ball-rolling mini-game, where you use the wii balance board to roll a ball on a platform into a certain hole which allows you to advance to the next level.
  • Hula hooping
  • Ski jumping, whereby the player squats as low as possible, while maintaining his or her balance, and then quickly stands as fast as possible in order to gain a good jump
  • Jogging
  • Tightrope walking, where the player must maintain the balance of a Mii walking on a tightrope from one building top to another.
  • Snowboarding
  • A Boxing minigame.

Wii Fit will be launching in the UK on April 25. Play.com has been “overwhelmed” by demand for the new fitness game. Fit is already wildly successful in Japan where it sold over a million copies in the first month when it debuted there 4 months ago.

I think it is great to see an “exergame” become so widely popular. Fitness isn’t always fun, but becoming Fit on a Wii certainly looks like a blast.
