Anti-Snoring Pill Helps You Sleep Soundly
I had a roommate in college who was an epic snorer. I don’t think I ever got used to it either. My only salvation was a big box fan and some ear plugs to muffle the sounds.
All joking aside, snoring is a big problem and it is usually associated with a disorder called sleep apnea. Obstructive sleep apnea is the most common form of sleep apnea and is characterized by pauses in breathing during sleep, loud snoring, restless sleep, and sleepiness during the daytime.
I’m not the only one who has been on the receiving end of a snoring problem. Thankfully, scientists have been working on the problem and are on the verge of introducing an anti-snoring pill that may bring some relief to thousands of sufferers.
The new drug, developed by London-based BTG, combines two existing drugs that operate by affecting areas of the brain associated with increased muscle tone and airflow in breathing.
The trial involved 39 patients with the condition taking either a placebo or varying doses of the drugs daily for 28 days.
Those who took high doses of the pill enjoyed a “statistically significant reduction” in OSA of around 40 per cent, compared to patients who took the placebo.
I’m sure many spouses relish the thought of a simple daily pill that can sure snoring and give them a good night’s sleep.
