Mayo Clinic Calorie Calculator
Do you ever wonder how many calories you need to consume to maintain your current weight? You might think you know, but perhaps your lifestyle has changed (become more sedentary) or maybe you are several years older since the last time you thought about it - both key factors in the calculation.
Here is a handy calorie calculator from Mayo Clinic that will estimate the number of daily calories your body needs to maintain your current weight. The calculator is based on the Harris-Benedict Equation and Dietary Reference Intakes from the Institute of Medicine.
Before I completed the calculator wizard I assumed that I needed somewhere between 2000 and 2500 calories, but it turns out that my estimated daily calorie needs are 2600 calories. 2600 calories seems like a lot to me, but I don’t count calories either. I am able to maintain my weight with a combination of daily exercise and a very regimented diet. Either way, knowing your suggested calorie count is good information to have.
