The Way to Cook

I picked up a copy of Julia Child’s “The Way to Cook” this weekend. I admit that it was an impulse purchase, but I am quite pleased I bought it because hopefully I will become a better cook.
The name of this book says it all – The Way to Cook. It is chock full of sage advice from a culinary legend. The book focuses on the basics; showing you everything from how to boil an egg, stew a chicken, or make a proper French onion soup. The book is organized by technique rather than food, with chapter names like Soups, Breads, Eggs, Fish & Shellfish, Poultry, and Pastry Doughs to name a few.
The book was published in 1989 yet remains a relevant classic today because good food prepared well doesn’t become dated. I’ve set a personal goal for myself to try and make every recipe in this book.
It takes a pretty confident chef to name a cookbook “The Way to Cook.” If you have been even remotely interested in learning how to cook this is the first book you should buy.
