Could Magnetic Discs Kill Cancer Cells?
Doctors may have discovered an unlikely tool to kill cancer cells. Strange as it sounds, tiny magnetic discs, too small to be seen by the naked eye may be just the thing. When I say small, I mean small. The discs are just 60 billionths of a meter thick.
The “nanodiscs” are made of an iron-nickel alloy and when they are subjected to a magnetic field, they vibrate. That movement damages the membranes of cancer cells and causes them to self-destruct.
Elena Rozhkova, who co-authored the new study, said that subjecting the discs to a magnetic field for about 10 minutes was enough to destroy 90 percent of cancer cells in lab tests.
That’s awesome news. How great would it be to have a treatment that is fast and that effective. As long as the drug industry doesn’t try to bury this, this could be a miracle for many people.
