Can Herpes Fight Cancer?
Normally it’s best to avoid herpes, but maybe we should embrace it. Just a little. Researchers at a London hospital have discovered encouraging proof that it can be used to treat patients with head and neck cancer. According to BBC News, a genetically engineered herpes virus, used with chemotherapy and radiotherapy, helped kill tumors in 17 patients at Royal Marsden Hospital.
The herpes simplex virus helped eradicate the tumors by killing the cancer cells from the inside. Interestingly the virus also boosted the patients’ immune systems.
