Cords on window blinds can be strangling hazard to kids

Consider this a healthy reminder about one of the not so hidden dangers in our homes. The death of a Maryland toddler has prompted federal officials to issue a safety alert about the risks of window cords.
The 2-year-old child was strangled in November after his head became entangled in window cords. It happens more often than you might think. About one child a month dies from strangling in cords from blinds or shades, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Manufacturers have even recalled 5 million window treatments – which the agency lists among the top five “hidden dangers” in the home – in just the past few months. Always be on the lookout for dangling cords.
