GarlicAside from fending off Vampires, fresh garlic can protect your heart. A team of researchers from the Cardiovascular Research Center at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine have learned how freshly crushed garlic(Not dried or cooked garlic) protects the heart.

Freshly crushed garlic generates hydrogen sulfide, a gas that is also generated from rotten egg. While that might not sound appealing, in small quantities it functions as an intracellular signaling compound and can protect the heart. Because the hydrogen sulfide is a short-lived gas, it disappears when garlic is dried or cooked. Dried or processed garlic is fine, it still retains its antioxidant effects and helps protect against free radical damage, but not nearly as well as fresh garlic does.
