Soynut Butter
I love peanut butter and I used to eat it on a daily basis, but I’ve been eating soynut butter for about a year now as an alternative to peanut butter. I wasn’t necessarily looking for a peanut butter alternative, I just happened upon it when browsing the health food aisles of my grocery store and decided to give it a try. I’m always looking for additional sources of soy protein and soynut butter is an easy way to incorporate it into my diet.
The nutritional breakdown of peanut butter and soynut butter is very similar. Soynut butter contains slightly less saturated fat and slightly more dietary fiber. The biggest benefit you will probably realize is the additional source of soy protein.
I regularly eat soynuts, so soynut butter wasn’t a big leap for me. Keep in mind, soynut butter isn’t for everybody due to the differences in consistency and smell from peanut butter. Soynut butter isn’t nearly as sweet as peanut butter; it has a mild, earthy taste. The consistency is much more grainy than peanut butter and the smell is just simply different than peanut butter. I recommend starting with the Honey Creamy variety since it is very similar to most peanut butters in taste and consistency. I use it in sandwiches and put it on pancakes. I normally purchase the I.M. Healthy brand. Try it as an interesting alternative to peanut butter.
