Interactive Tool to Determine Heart Disease Risk

Filed under Wellness by Paul on September 25th, 2006

Here is an interactive tool to determine your 10 year risk of a heart attack. The calculations are based on information from the Framingham Heart Study. The objective of the Framingham Heart Study was to identify the common factors and characteristics that contribute to cardiovascular disease (CVD) by following its development over a long period of time (50 years) and with a large group of participants who had not yet developed symptoms of CVD or suffered a heart attack or stroke. The tool uses the following factors to determine risk:

  • Age and gender.
  • If you are a smoker.
  • Systolic blood pressure.
  • Blood pressure medicine.
  • Total cholesterol.

My estimated 10-year risk of a heart attack is less than %1 – so far, so good.
