McDonald’s pulls 12 million cadmium-tainted Shrek glasses

McDonald’s has recalled 12 million drinking glasses that it was selling to promote the new Shrek movie. The problem is the painted designs on the U.S made glasses. They contain cadmium. The U.S. CPSC announced the voluntary recall last Friday and warned consumers to stop using the glasses.
As you may or may not know, long-term exposure to cadmium can cause adverse health effects. It’s a known carcinogen that can cause things like bone softening and severe kidney problems. The cadmium was in the paint on the collectible glasses.
These glasses were made in the USA, so it isn’t always China who is to blame.
