File this one under common sense. The risk of dying early doubles for men who start their adult lives obese, according to new research.

Scientists followed more than 5,000 men in the military beginning at age 20 until they were 80. They learned that at any age, an obese man was two times as likely to die early as a man who wasn’t obese.

Being extremely overweight at the age of 20 had an impact on the men’s deaths even 60 years later. The possibility of an early death increased by 10 percent for each point on the Body Mass Index scale above what would be considered healthy. Obese men died an estimated eight years before those who weren’t overweight.

We already know obesity is bad. This is just more confirmation.
